Adam the boys are moving to Salinas and Lee is helping them. Throughout the story, the setting impacts the characters actions. And he also watches out for others and makes difficult decisions out of love and care to protect them. He gives advice and is wise, like most parents. Lee resembles my parents in a way, and any parents in general. It his a very hard, but honorable thing Lee does to help Cal. Lee wants to tell Adam about Cal's crime, and ask for his blessing to lift the guilt from Cal, even if it kills Adam. Another example is when Adam had just had his stroke and Cal is trying to confess his evil deed to Adam, and Lee is helping Cal tell him. This advice Lee gives is very wise advice that readers can understand and connect with on their own personal level. Here Lee gives advice to Adam regarding timshel. All great and precious things are lonely. It gave him the right to be a man, separate from every other man. Lee states," I said that word carried a man's greatness if he wanted to take advantage of it. He asks Lee for advice, and the word timshel comes up again. Adam is at conflict with himself because he feels like he is killing men by drafting them. He is smart, wise, kind, thoughtful, honest, and much more. He has a number of characteristics and qualities that make him admirable. He is voiced by Nobuyuki Hiyama in Japanese and by Newton Pittman in English.After reading the East of Eden, I believe that Lee is the most admirable character.
